Why settle for just suppressing the symptoms presenting themselves on your skin? Why risk thinning your skin with creams or suppressing your entire immune system if you have not tried less risky approaches first? Did you know there are other options available to you?
I am very happy to specialize in Dermatology with Chinese Medicine. Chinese Medicine offers those suffering from dermatological conditions the option of low risk, personalized, and natural herbal treatments.
Part of my interest (or obsession) with Chinese Medical Dermatology is that I see a lack of reliable yet low risk treatment options elsewhere. Dermatology patients often report experiencing stress and anxiety about having to decide between doing nothing or risking side effects with the use of steroids, antibiotics, and/or immune system suppressants and even chemo therapies as treatments. Please do not get me wrong, this is not meant to be a criticism of other forms of medicine. This is not about Chinese Medicine vs Western Medicine as I find those arguments and lines of thinking to be meaningless. What I care about and I hope you care about is being able to help people while putting them at the least risk possible. The conventional treatments I just listed have saved many peoples lives, they should get their due credit for that, however they do not seem like great first or second options for non-life threatening skin diseases.
Chinese Medicine can be tremendously beneficial in the treatment of skin conditions but it does require a small amount of discipline and engagement from patients. Patients need to drink herbs twice per day and in some cases apply herbal ointments on their skin. Engagement and involvement in your own care help break the cycle of just being anxious about your skin.
I can help you with the following skin conditions:
- Eczema or Dermatitis*
- Alopecia Areata
- Lichen Planus or Simplex
- Herpes Simplex and/or Zoster
*Eczema/Dermatitis includes Atopic Eczema, “Topical Steroid Withdrawal” TSW, Pomphylx Eczema, Nummular Eczema, Stasis Eczema, Seborrheic Dermatitis, and Peri-oral or Peri-orbital dermatitis
Dermatology Consultations are $105 for the Initial visit plus the cost of the herbs. Follow up visits are $85 plus the cost of the herbs.
The treatment process consists of an initial evaluation where skin lesions can be examined and photo documented. At the initial evaluation herbs are selected for you based on your current presentation. The herbs are to be prepared and drank twice daily, a process that takes less than five minutes in regards to preparation. Many conditions also call for the use of ointments in addition to orally administered herbs, these ointments will also be selected at the initial evaluation.
Follow up consultations usually occur every two to four weeks. At follow up evaluations, you are re-examined and modifications made to your herbal regimen depending on your current presentation.
Typically 1 month of treatment is approximately $250 to $400 on average, depending on the herbs needed for your presentation. Most chronic conditions take at about six months. However, it is not unusual for some cases to settle earlier while some take longer than six months. These timelines are comparable to timelines required for many prescription medications, however with significantly less risk or the need to continue treatments forever.
I’ve posted some case studies here.
